Reflection on Sustainable Development

After a few weeks of exposure to SDG goals, now it's time for students to do something to bring change to the campus for a better sustainable development environment.  There are a lot of student projects being implemented in IIUM to produce a nature-sustainable campus.  There are also 6 indicators for campus sustainability which are:  Setting and Infrastructure Energy and Climate change Waste Water Transportation Education and Research for each indicator plays an important role in improving specific sectors to achieve a Green and Sustainable Campus.  From my understanding Green campus is about an environment where most of the activities of action take place, it is all closely related with SDGs which bring a clean environment, zero pollution, security, and many more.    For example, of Waste; in IIUM students practice 3R which is Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle where they should dump their waste separately according to its label of waste.  Other than that, t...

 Fri this week, I gained knowledge about the importance of SDG 16 & 17 and how the institutions implement it to achieve the goals.   SDG 16 is about Pace, Justice, and Strong Institutions To put it simply, it is about promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions. Basically, this goal is to guarantee society's safety and tranquility with no violence committed randomly everywhere, and justice at every level of society. By doing that, we can create a tranquil atmosphere free from criminal activity and without great deals of fear being committed in society.  SDG 17 is about Partnership for the goals It refers to the need for cross-sector and cross-country collaboration in pursuit of all the goals by the year 2030.  It is about strengthening and streamlining cooperation between nation-states, both developed and developing, using the SDGs as a shared framework and vision for defining that collaborative way forward.  There are 5 categories and each t...

 From what I gained in the week 6 class is about the role of university and sustainable development.  I'm grateful that I am part of the IIUM community and as a student, I agree that IIUM is the Garden of Knowledge and Virtue. Besides learning to be Muslim Ummah Rahmatan Lil-Alameen, IIUM also applied education for Sustainable Development. This clearly shows that the university has picked up the United Nations' global call and conveyed the message to all IIUM students. One of the elements applied in IIUM is called 'SEJAHTERA'. Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity is one organization that was established to champion the sustainability, humanity, and Sejahtera agenda for IIUM. Some of the programs organized by this organization are World Humintarian Day where they give out food at Flat Makmur Sri Selayang, Desa Sejahtera Pinggiran UIAM, and at Kg. Sg. Kertas.
