Week 4: RCE Exhibition

Week 4

In week 4 I went to RCE Exhibition in ICC, IIUM.

It is an exhibition that gathers a lot of organizations that based on Sustainable Development. we also had a session with alumni of IIUM and she shared about her Projek Buku Jalanan Chow Kit (BJCK). How they as a non-profit organization (NGO) volunteer to give free education to street kids at Chow Kit. From a small number of members going to Chow Kit and open tables on the street for the kids to get informal education session.  I learned that children have rights which are important for us as adults to ensure they get their rights:
  1. right for education
  2. right for security
  3. right for rest and playing
  4. right for health
These are what Projek Buku Jalanan Chow Kit tried to convey, to protect, care, and provide what they (the kids) should get. These are to prepare the kids to become responsible and contributing members of society, they believe that at risk youths need a safe environment to spend their time. To accomplish this, they have set up a safe space and resource center where the children of Chow Kit can have a safe and stimulating refuge to play, hang around, read and interact with positive role models. It is also a venue for our community tuition initiatives and home-schooling program for stateless/displaced children who did not have access to public school.

Below are the other booths we visited and all of them have the same goal which is to work towards Sustainable Development Goals.
